TRAVEL TIPS: THE ELEPHANT EXPEDITION IN BALI

Hey Afaconados!

After an amazing first night out and a whole day on the beach, my friends and I decided to take a trip out to the Gianyar Regency for a visit to the Bali Zoo, where they have their famous Elephant Expedition. This is by far one of the coolest things I got to do while in Bali. Never in my life would I have expected to have the opportunity to do something so cool. I’m amazed that I wasn’t at all afraid to get on such a huge animal. I was surprised to find that Haathi (my elephant’s name) was so gentle and tame.

The Bali Zoo is huge! The trail we took is used only for the elephant expedition so you don’t get to see any other animals along the way. It lasts about one hour and you take a break to visit a gorgeous 300 year old temple along the way…not a bad bonus if I do say so myself. The purpose of the break is so the elephants can rest for a while and eat before continuing on the trail.

Take a look:

During our break, the girls and I got suited up in sarongs and sashes (required for entering a temple) and headed up the hill to visit the temple:

After visiting the temple, my friends and I got to refresh ourselves with some delicious coconut water straight from the coconut!

By the time we finished drinking, our elephant friends had returned to complete the remainder of the tour. But first, we got a chance to feed our elephants chopped coconut and pose for pics…SO COOL!

Then we were on our way back to where we started. My driver Joona was so sweet and helpful, I wanted to make sure I got a chance to take a picture with him when we got back.

This was truly an experience I will never forget! Until next time!
