HOW TO STYLE ACCESSORIES FOR WINTER

Okay, winter is right around the corner and that means it’s time to start piling on those layers! One of my favorite things to do when it starts getting cold outside is to incorporate some of my favorite accessories. Although most of us already have great pieces in our wardrobe, not everyone knows how to style accessories for winter to make them look stylish. Well, that’s what I’m here for!

My dad LOVED hats! I can’t recall a time during my childhood when my father did not have some type of hat on. There was one hat that he wore almost all the time…it was his favorite. Last week, I received a huge box at my door that my brother said was from him and I had no clue what was in it. I opened the box to see that it was my dad’s favorite hat and broke down in tears. My brother included the sweetest note to tell me that my father would have wanted me to have his favorite hat. That’s the hat I’m wearing with my outfit today.

When I think about how to style accessories for winter, I like to take a look in my closet first to see what I already have. There’s no sense in buying new pieces when you can leverage what you have. Scarves are an obvious choice for winter, but the way you style them makes a difference. I tend to lean towards wearing long, chunky scarves. They help to create some drama, plus you can wrap them around multiple times for an exaggerated, infinity scarf effect. You can also simply hang the scarf from your neck as I’ve done today.

I’m obviously wearing a hat with my outfit so for styling, I wanted to create a rustic, Urban Cowgirl kind of look. That’s why I paired my hat with distressed jeans and boots! Henley shirts are perfect for layering, and they’re also surprisingly warm so I threw on this one that I got from JCrew with my favorite Double-Breasted coat!

There you have it! Whatever you do, don’t be afraid to add a few accessories this winter!
